Undergraduate Programmes

COLLEGE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The entry requirements approved by Senate in respect of first degree courses are:

M.B.B.S and B.D.S.

Direct Entry
Graduates of University recognized by the Senate for this purpose (Minimum Second Class Upper Division) Discipline must be relevant to MBBS programme.
OR
Candidates holding the General Certificate of Education, Advanced Level (or approved
equivalent) in Chemistry and two other subjects chosen from Physics, Mathematics and Biology (or Zoology) plus the GCE 'O' Level grade 6 and above or equivalent in English Language.

Mathematics or Physics or Biology must be passed at 'O' Level grade 6 and above if it has not been obtained at the 'A' Level

Concessional Entry

Candidates holding the General Certificate of Education Ordinary level (or approved equivalent) at Grade level 6 and above in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

A candidate who seeks to complete his qualifications at the preliminary examination in Science and advance to the part 1 of the MBBS or BDS degree programme must pass in Chemistry plus two other subjects from Biology (or Zoology), Physics and Mathematics on one and the same occasion.



B.Sc.(Nursing)

To be admitted to the course candidates must possess:

(a)
The S.R.N. or its approved equivalent in General Nursing:

(b)
At least five credits at the West African School Certificate Examination or its
approved equivalent to include English Language and Science subject; and

(c)
At least two years post-registration experience, (exclusive of education period.)



B.Sc. (Physiotherapy) Degree

Direct Entry

To be admitted to the B.Sc. (Physiotherapy) degree course, candidates must fulfil one of the following prerequisites:

(a)
Candidates must have satisfied the prescribed minimum conditions of the University for admission to the degree course and in so doing must have passed in two of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Zoology at Principal Level in the Higher School Certificate Examinations or at Advanced Level in the General Certificate of Education Examinations (or the approved equivalent). Physics and Mathematics should be included in the subjects passed as Credit Level at the Ordinary Level in the General Certificate of Examination or West African School Certificate Examination if not passed at the G.C.E Advance Level.

(b)
Candidates must have been admitted to the University for a preliminary course in accordance with the University regulations dealing with concessional entry and must have passed in two of the following subjects; Physics, Chemistry, and Zoology or Biology on one and the same occasion.

Concessional Entry

West African School Certificate or equivalent with a minimum of five credit passes in five subjects which should include Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and Mathematics.



B.Sc. (Human Nutrition)

Direct Entry

To be admitted to the course leading to the B.Sc. (Human Nutrition) degree, a candidate must have satisfied the prescribed minimum conditions for admission to degree course in the University, provided that Chemistry is included in the subjects passed at the Advanced Level in the General Certificate of Education or an approved equivalent.

In special cases candidates holding the General Certificate of Education or its equivalent with at least 5 credits including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry and one other Science subject, normally passed at one and the same examination and one of the following professional certificates from an approved institution:


· Nigerian Registered Nurse or equivalent.
· National Diploma in Agriculture.
· National Certificate of Education.
· Public Health Inspector's Certificate.
· Certificate in Food Science and Applied Nutrition of this University.
· Advanced Diploma in Health Education of the University, provided that such
candidates possess at least one year of satisfactory professional experience in a relevant discipline of nutrition.

Concessional Entry

Candidates holding the General Certificate of Education Ordinary level (or approved equivalent) at Grade 6 or higher in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, and 2 other Science subjects.



B. Sc. (Biochemistry)

Direct Entry

GCE Advanced Level in 2 subjects chosen from:
· Mathematics
· Physics
· Chemistry
· Biology
· Zoology
· Botany
Plus General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level at Grade 6 and above in English Language.

Concessional Entry

GCE Ordinary Level with passes at Credit Level in 5 subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.


B.Sc. (Physiology)

Direct Entry

GCE Advanced Level in 2 subjects chosen from:
· Mathematics
· Physics
· Chemistry
· Zoology
· Botany
Plus GCE Ordinary Level at grade 6 and above in English Language.

Concessional Entry

GCE Ordinary Level with passes at Credit Level 5 subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.


Award of Certificate and Diploma

The award of certificates or Diploma to candidates who have satisfied all the requirements, including the prescribed period of study, shall be approved by Senate on the recommendation of Board of the Postgraduate School.

Approval of Department and Faculty Requirements

Specific Department and faculty requirements, additional or consequent on these General Regulations shall not be binding unless approved by Senate on the recommendation of the Board of the Postgraduate School.
