Professor Olaitan A. Soyannwo
Prof Soyannwo was born at Ilisan -Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria. She received
her early education at Mayflower school, Ikenne and Queen's College, Yaba,
Lagos before proceeding to the University of Ibadan Medical school. She
obtained the MBBS degree of the University in 1971 and had her professional
training in the specialty of Anaethesia at the University College Hospital,
Ibadan. Part of her residency training (1978 -1979)was at the Department of
Anaesthetics, Royal College of Surgeons, London and Royal Liverpool Hospital,
Liverpool. She was awarded the Diploma in Anaesthesia (UI) in 1974,
M.Med.(1980) and Fellowship of West African College of Surgeons in 1984. She
is a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS) and Nigerian
Academy of Science (FAS). She was promoted to Professor of Anaesthesia in
1998 and has served as Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive care at the
University College Hospital, Ibadan since 1981. She served as the Head of
Department of Anaesthesia at various times between 1988 to 2002 and Dean of
Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan from
2002 to 2004. Her areas of research interest are in Pain and palliative care,
paediatrics anaesthesia and manpower development.
