Afolabi resumes as Faculty Officer as Olaoye gets redeployed:
Mrs. Morenike F. Afolabi was redeployed to this Faculty (Clinical Sciences) from the Postgraduate School to succeed Mr. O.A. Olaoye, who was seconded to the University Advancement Centre from Monday 17th March, 2008.

New Name for Community Medicine

New Name for Community Medicine:
The Senate of University of Ibadan at its last meeting held on Monday, June 30 2008 approved the splitting of Department of Community Medicine into two Departments namely "Preventive Medicine and Primary care" and "Health Policy and Management". While the core Department remains in Faculty of Clinical Sciences and will henceforth be known as Preventive Medicine and Primary Care; its baby, Health Policy and Management, will henceforth be situated in Faculty of Public Health.
The recent Senate approval awaits the approval of National Universities' Commission.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) has announced to the University community that the Conference support grant of 2007/2008 session has been exhausted. Future applicants will have to await the allocation for the new session.

International Conference on Oncology holds at college of Medicine, UI

The Society of Oncology and Cancer Research of Nigeria held its first Conference at the College of Medicine in July 2008. It was well attended and had many international resource persons in attendance. The President of the Society is Professor C.A. Adebamowo of Department of Surgery who is also the Director of Institute of Medical Research and Training of the College.

Ibadan mentors on OSCE

A team of two members of Department of Surgery, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan visited the Department of Surgery of University of Ilorin at the end of August to advise and guide on the use of OSCE in undergraduate examination in Surgery. The members of the team, co-incidentally past Subdeans, Postgraduate of Faculty of Clinical Sciences, were Drs. E.O. Olapade-Olaopa and A.O.Afolabi. On a similar note, some Faculty members were also at Ife in September as resource persons at a workshop on the use of OSCE as a method of assessment in the Clinical Sciences.

Radiotherapy spells 1st

The International Atomic Energy Agency, high brachytherapy unit in University College Hospital, the 1st of its type in Nigeria, was commissioned on 21 August 2008. The unit is situated in Department of Radiotherapy of Faculty of Clinical Sciences and will assist in treating cancer patients particularly those with gynaecological cancer.

Corneal transplantation commences in Ibadan
-
Department of Ophthalmology on the week of this year's Conference of the Ophthalmology Society of Nigeria, 15-19 September, performed the first corneal transplants in the history of the University College Hospital. It will be noted that the Department has not relented in its expansion drive over the past few years particularly in the area of human capacity building.
