1.         PROFILE OF IMRAT


The Postgraduate Institute for Medical Research and Training (PIMRAT) now Institute for Advanced Medical Research and Training (IMRAT) was established in 1980 as one of the academic divisions of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan primarily for co-ordination of multidisciplinary research programmes in the College. The programmes also provide resident doctors and postgraduate students with a wide spectrum of short-term research projects, which enable them to fulfil part of the statutory requirements for professional fellowship or doctorate degree awards.

In the past two decades of its existence, the Institute has distinguished itself in its research   and training programmes by:

 (i)            conducting multidisciplinary research in the areas of Nigeria’s national health priority needs and assessing adherence to standard ethical guideline through the Ethical Research Committee Section of the Institute

 (ii)           organizing several training workshops at academic and technical levels on  methodology and application of research techniques.

 (iii)          establishing linkages with and receiving support from national and international awarding agencies such as WHO, Welcome Trust Fund, Ciba Foundation, Sandoz, Volkswagen – Stiftung, USAID, Christopher Kolade Foundation (CKF) the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Falk Clinical Cancer Trust (USA).

 (iv)           disseminating research findings through Guest Lectures, Seminars, Conferences,  Workshops and Publications.

 (v)           seeking to advance the medical sciences through collaboration with Social Scientists and Public Health Specialists in other Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria
